After a tough shortlisting and interview process, the following appointments have been made, subject to appropriate DBS checks:
Offensive Coordinator - Andrew Morgan, Shropshire Revolution
Defensive Coordinator - Chris Herbert, Royal Holloway University
Offensive Special Teams - Damon Kirby, Somerset Wyverns
Defensive Special Teams - Scott Rowe, Kent Exiles
Speaking on the appointments, Neale said: “I’m delighted to be able to make the first round of announcements on our staff for the new programme, I think we’ve got a great blend of young, energetic staff, as well as some experienced heads, and finding that balance as part of the leadership within the staff was key for me.
I’ve very much focused on getting the best people into the roles, and that has led to the splitting of the Special Coordinators role into two separate phases. This emphasises just how important the role is to me as HC, understanding how limited the players’ time is at the youth and junior club level to work on them, and because we had two fantastic coaches applying for the same role, and I valued both their input on the staff.
Having Damon and Scott on board working not just with Special Teams, but also with positional groups on offense and defense is a massive boost for us, with their experience totalling over 30 years between them.
Chris and Andrew on the other hand are widely regarded as two of the best young, up-and-coming coaches in the country, and being able to bring their energy and enthusiasm on board, with some fresh ideas and a real desire to make this programme great is brilliant.
I would like to thank Coach Wayne Hill and Team Manager Calum McClenaghan for their time and input into the interviews, it was absolutely invaluable in ensuring we made the right decisions throughout this process and had clear and fair evaluations.”
The next stage in the process is for Coach McMaster and the individual coordinators to shortlist and interview the candidates for positional coaches for both the youth and junior teams. These will be ongoing throughout July, with the aim of making a positional staff announcement in early August.
