BAFA is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason Henry to the role of Great Britain Lions U19 Head Coach.
Coach Henry has over 25 years of experience in American football, from a playing career which helped to drive the London Blitz into the national powerhouse the club is today, to a coaching career which has seen him win four U19 contact titles, two U17 flag titles and an U12 flag title. He has also seen his U19 alumni progress to the GB adult team, BAFA adult leagues, German D1, NFL Europe, NCAA and the NFL.
BAFA Chairman Martin Cockerill said of the appointment: "The list of applicants for the role contained a vast wealth of knowledge and experience for the position and the panel were extremely impressed with the thoughts and ideas for the development of the U19 programme that were expressed and presented to us during the interviews.
"Jason`s passion and understanding of what needs to happen to put the Lions U19 programme back on track just left us stunned and we look forward to working with him to build his staff and the programme. The selection process was extremely close and we hope that the unsuccessful candidates will put themselves forward for the other positions that will be available, as they will be superb assets to the programme.”
Coach Henry, whose playing career also took him to Spain and saw him represent Team England, stated: “I am delighted and honoured to be the new Head Coach of the U19 National Team. I would like to thank the Chairman and board for the faith they have shown in me and the opportunity to build upon the great work Coach Anderson has done with the programme.
"I am excited that we can start to create an outstanding support team, coaches and of course assemble the best and the brightest young men in Great Britain to represent us now and in the future.”
